Midsummer Giveaway!

a giveaway!

as promised, i'm going to give away a pair of earrings here on the blog this week in celebration of movement and momentum. summer is not as intense as spring, i think, in terms of metaphorical movement, but it is such a ripe season - the season of fruit and fullness. it is the season of rivers, which are (in and of themselves) one of the worlds grandest metaphors for movement and flow. do you live near a river? i just found out that the particular ridge i live on lies between (almost exactly) the Feather River and the Yuba River. i am equidistant from them both, and they both entail a fair amount of driving to get to. but one must always find the rivers. i was lucky enough to grow up on one of the most beautiful lakes (Lake Tahoe) around, and so i grew up with crystal water at my feet. all the time. where shall we go? was never a question - we were always at the lake.

so then, this giveaway is in honor of summer and water, of ripening and growth. to enter this giveaway, please follow this blog, and leave a comment below. you may get one extra entry for tweeting/blogging/facebooking/etc., about this giveaway. in that case, please leave another comment that you did so.

i will select a random winner on sunday, july 15th. so entries close at 5 pm that day. please enter and tell your friends! thank you for being here! thank you for being part of this wonderful mess that is the interwebs!

i was just talking about rivers the other day. although i live right next to the ocean, rivers are by far my favorite source of water! i'll be stoked to be jumping into the merced river in a couple weeks when i go to yosemite.

  4. gurrrrl, you are singing my song. thank you for summing it all up with such concise poignancy. summer totally does feel less exuberant than spring. there is a parallel to the stillness of winter i think, but instead of going down into the earth, it feels like blossoming outwards. puttin all that energy into fruit. and rivers. YES. i adore the feather river. have you ever been to belden town up there? in shasta co., the sacramento was not so much a friend, but more like the resident deity...to honor, revere and fear. the river that feels like my pal is the pit, in N.E. cali.

and OF COURSE i am sighing over those earrings, so i'd like to enter too, please. xo

  8. When I moved to Australia's coastline I encountered an entirely new force in my life, the ocean. It is never resting salt water, always crashing with force or kindly lapping. Having grown up in Chico area, I’d always spent time in the rivers and canyons. This new ocean lifestyle became a very difficult transition for me. I longed for the sweetness of the rivers, the peaceful stillness they can offer as well as the bold rushes. However today I have come to peace with both forces of water, after all, all rivers flow to the ocean. We go through this process of division but we always become one again.
Now I am blessed to be home in Chico, or shall I say sweet water country, for the beautiful stillness of the summer heat, and being here has made me appreciate its flowing rivers and soaring hawks just as much as I have learned to appreciate the oceans waves and her many beautiful sea creatures. I believe they are 2 sisters, and I must work with both to feel full.
