Dressmaker

I found an awesome shirt the other day (thanks Cat & Alex!) and have been reproducing it in various forms ever since. It is the best thing ever. One piece of fabric, and one seam. So simple! A couple nights ago I extended the length and made a dress out of it with some coral and brown jersey that I've had forever and have been waiting for the perfect thing to use it for. (And here i believe I owe thanks to Kellee, whose fabric this maybe was originally, and to Anna, whose moldy basement I rescued it from). None of the photos are that great, but hopefully you get the idea:

A sweet little bird just turned me onto this beautiful artwork. So up my alley. I love. I think his MySpace is his official site. He's my age. Sigh. A sweet, brilliant 27.

Only in Portland

Right? Or other places that I don't know about?

This was at Ian's going-away party - a "potluck" with many, many PBR-drinking, Camel-smoking hipsters, and a large bag of Ruffles on the ping pong table. Actually, there were also some Doritos inside on the kitchen counter; Anna and I brought some potato salad that we kept quietly to ourselves in the corner. Two very nice people helped me look for a wine opener, and between the three of us, it only took us 12 minutes to find one.

There was a piñata at the party, which the hipsters gladly smashed, but since everyone was well over the age of 5, Asher was the only one who really cared about the candy that fell out of the piñata. (Actually, I think a few mini-bottles of vodka fell out and were deftly swooped up by a quick blond girl in boots.) Asher spent the rest of the party periodically going over to the pile of riches on the ground, and stuffing a few more suckers in his overalls pocket. Occasionally a cute girl would bring him another one in an attempt to bridge the gap. Pretty cute. See Asher with suckers and garden fawn, below:

All in a row

Hi lovers-

Sorry for the minimal blogging. Sometimes I feel uninspired, and have to focus on more important things like food and sleep; I'm sure you all know how it goes.

Having, however, finally caught up on sleep, I find myself in the midst of a beautiful late-summer-almost-fall Saturday. So gorgeous. I made french toast for Asher, brewed some coffee, and started in on some yard work in our tiny yard - lots of cutting back and weeding - so different than the spring cutting back and weeding, when it's so everything can burst open and bloom. Now I'm trimming stuff so it can go inwards and sleep, and hopefully come back next year in some shape or form. I even mowed the lawn and un-potted some plants so they don't drown over the winter. (Click to enlarge any of the photos):

Ahhh, fall, how I love thee. Yes, it means winter is that much closer. But there is something so deep and delicious about fall. Everything starts to shift again and push down- roots crawl faster than we imagined, and it's so hard to keep up. It's like the emotional upheaval of spring, but it's almost more intense, because its so earth-bound, so much quieter and more secret. Burrowing and burrowing until winter when it stops, sits, gestates...waits for the first mornings of another year so it can finally start to unfold, and we can see what we've created.

Stumbled upon this beautiful stuff on Etsy. Goes straight to my heart with the out-of-focus fairylight photos. If I could chose one thing in the world, it would be making out. But if I could choose two things, it would be making out in a sea of those little glowing orbs that lights become when you blur your eyes.

Apparently feeling compelled to post pictures of semi-naked girls and pornstars these days. Guess it just goes that way sometimes. The illustrious Sasha Grey, all photos via Sasha Grey.

Behind the times

I absolutely cannot believe I have never been to Nationale. It is a tiny shop/gallery/place of coolness, and I adore their blog. One of these days I will stop by and likely buy some very cute things. I will try to post photos of them here. In the meantime, you, too, can become a lover of the blog or the shop. Or both.

**Melissa- this shop is verrrrry very close to your new house!!
