This above all: to thine own self be true

So, I'm flying to California again tomorrow for my 27th birthday weekend. So excited for mountain/lake/river adventures. But I feel bad that I haven't posted much, and I'm certainly not going to post while I'm gone. Hopefully I'll have some excellent photos when I return, and I promise to post the how-to for the most delicious coconut-strawberry ice-blender thing that I made the other day. So yum.

In the meantime, I will leave you all with a love poem. I pretty much never get sick of love poems.

Sudden Light

I have been here before,
But when or how I cannot tell:
I know the grass beyond the door,
The sweet keen smell,
The sighing sound, the lights around the shore.

You have been mine before,—
How long ago I may not know:
But just when at that swallow's soar
Your neck turned so,
Some veil did fall,—I knew it all of yore.

Has this been thus before?
And shall not thus time's eddying flight
Still with our lives our love restore
In death's despite,
And day and night yield one delight once more?

-Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882)

Fly further

Also, Melissa has some beautiful new earrings in her shop. CHECK IT.

Oregon Coast

Took Asher out of school early on Friday and adventured to the coast with a whole bunch of girls. First ride ever in Sophie's new car. Woot! Took some photos, but Clare was that cool girl with the Polaroid. Which is always the coolest camera at any party. Since I don't have a scanner, I took pics of the polaroids we got. The one of my leg was taken by Asher, (of course).

Sigh...

Feeling a little bit uninspired. I need to take new photos, go to the bins, clean house, sew some stuff. Maybe eat some fried chicken. Here are some of my fave 80s photos from when we lived in Oakland. Stylin!!!

Some awesome stuff:

Asher riding his new bike:

Finally made feather earrings! First attempt, still have some creative design aspects to work on, but it's all about getting started, right?

Skeleton Keys

Just bought these coolest skeleton key cutouts from PorkChopShow on Etsy. They are made of wood! You should check out his shop to see what he does, it's really cool. Hopefully I'll make some earrings out of them.

Take it off whenever you can

Agent Provocateur is having a summer sale on their site. I could pretty much die for these bikini bottoms:

I love their online catalogue. They have the weirdest freaking photos.

Asher the photographer

Asher is way into the camera lately. Here are a couple of my faves that he took during our trip to OCF:

Boa Constrictor & Kitten

Here is a darling photo of Asher holding a big boa constrictor at the Oregon Country Fair (with kitten face paint). The guy kept saying "look up!" because I was taking photos, and he would look straight up to the sky for a moment, then back down at the giant snake on his neck. Too cute to handle.

Tea Tree and Sea Salt Scrub

As part of my efforts to rid my world of ingrown hairs, I am trying to exfoliate more. So today I made this simple homemade salt scrub. Best part was I didn't even have to get anything at the store, it was all in my kitchen. Here's what I did:

Gathered the parts - 6 oz. jar, sea salt, sesame oil, and tea tree oil.

Poured some oil in the jar - not too much, because you're going to add salt.

Then I added a few drops of tea tree oil to the sesame oil so that it could blend in. Then, I poured the salt in.

I added it slowly and stopped when it pretty much stopped absorbing oil.

Then I capped it and shook it up so for a final blend, and voila! Salt Scrub:

Truthfully, I then went upstairs and added a few drops of peppermint essential oil and the tiniest bit of amber oil to warm the scent up a bit. You can scent it however you want, and you can also use sugar instead of sea salt, and a variety of oils. The tea tree will help with ingrown hairs and healing, but if you want something more relaxing, you can choose accordingly.

Last weekend

So much summer in my life. SO GOOOOD!!!! Last weekend Asher and I did some serious chilling in the yard. I took photos of clothes for Etsy, Asher made a mudbath for his toys, and we both worked on our tans.

melt and make magic

Whew. Still here, I promise. Sooo hot and tired, so I will simply leave you with this photo from Alicia J. Rose Photography - these pics are from a video shoot for The Builders and The Butchers. Kristin did the makeup and we supplied the dresses. Beautiful - go look at more.
